i have a 55 gal with 5 tiger barbs, 1 rtbs, 1 oto, 1 male guppie. I just noticed what appears to be a huge bubble nest in the tank. do any of the fish i have build bubble nests? if it were all pushed together it would spread over half the tank and about a 1/4 inch thick.

i keep bettas in other tanks so i am familiar with what a bubble nest should look like but there are no betttas in this particular tank.

if it's not a bubble nest what could it be?????

HELP!!!!PLease

Far as I'm aware, none of your fish make bubblenests

Could it be bubbles from an airsupply being pushed by the current and all collecting in the same area? Or perhaps your filter is letting through air?

i don't know. the tank has been ste up and occupied for well over a year , it has regular maintaince and it has never happened before so honestly i really don't know. I plan on futher investagating it tomorrow because it is late here now and i have to work tomrrow, so it will be tomorrow afternoon before i can really look into it. but i thiught posting here to see if it could be a bubble nest before i disturbe it.

i tested all water parameters and they are all normal so i'm not too concerned about water problems.

please people continue to comment as to what you think my problem could be so at least i know where to start tomorrow

i really appreciate it

Thanks

Hmm...Its certainly true as far as i know that none of your fish bubblenest, but i have heard of some water insects that will and its posible you could have one in the tank- it may be worth prodding around in the nest just to make sure there's nothing living in it; how big is it roughly?

it's fairly big. I haven't added any fish recently to bring anything new into the tank. it just looks like bubbles, there dosen't apper to be anything inside the bubbles. like i said it looks identical to the bubble nests that my bettas build

Has any soap or detergent or any other chemical that shouldn't be in there somehow gotten in there? Perhaps you cleaned a rock and used washing up liquid and didn't rinse it off thoroughly, or something like that?

Hmm, thats an idea indeed

I'll add on this one:

Is there anyone else in your house that might have used the bucket you use for waterchanges? (If you use one that is ;)) ... If so, is it possible they used it for some cleaning up liquids or anything?

For a little while an arline tube was leaking and it cause a bouble spot I didn't intend. I found that out only after I dug out the whole tube. Buy, that was a fun day

no i never used any soap or anything to clean anything in the tank. And i don't use buckets i hook up directly to a special hose that is kept under lock and key for the tanks only.

i haven't performed a water change in around 2 weeks, so absolutly nothing new was introduced into the tank for this to happen over a course of 1 day.I retested the water today and all parameters are fine, i also took a water sample to lfs to have checked in case my tests were off. but they got the same results as i did.

due to work issues it will be at least tomorrow or the next day before a water change can be done.

also i don't have any airline tubes within my tank that could leak

Do you use anything like a stress coating or any other chemical.
That sometimes makes long lasting bubbles.

Or do you have any live plants in the tank or alagae.
Sometimes they produces bubbles.

Try destroying it (as it doesn't belong to one of your fish) and see what happens or if it re-appears. It probably isn't even a 'nest' after all.

i tried to destry it by breaking it up last night. This morning it appeared the same but maybe even bigger than before.

i don't use any chemicals whatsoever in my tank. the water i use is natural spring water. i had it tested fro drinking purposes and while i was at it i had the chemist check for anything that could negatively affect fish. (chemist was a friend and fellow fish enthusist) he said the water was beyond perfect for the fish and to not add anything whatsoever to it because it didn't need it.

so that dosen't seem to explain it either :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
