Hi all i joined to sight in search of the advice and help ineed, here it goes yesterday my fluval 305 external filter arrived its the first time ive had an external filter the problem i have is i watched all the dvd and read instructions and beleived i set up the hosing on the filter right . i have had to but the intake pipe at one end of the tank and the outake at the other end of the tank, my tank is on 4ft long i could not put the tubes closer together as my hood wont allow me to, the outake pipe is the smaller of the pipes and runs in a perfect straight line from filter to tank note my cannister is situtated at the end of the tank where the outtake pipe is cant put cannister in middle of the tank as it wont fit under unless i take a draw out.the second pipe the intake one is slightly longer than the outake pipe and runs the length of my 4ft tank and then in the water the pipe does not go straight up its more like a hill or mountain gradually working its way up ,both my in and outake tubes ends are submerged underwater by 4inches after setting up tubes i primed the correct way as all the air pockets dissaperred from the outake pipe and water started pumping out into the tank but the problem i have is the INTAKE CONNECTION THATGOES IN THE WATER YOU KNOW THE HARD PLASTIC TUBE WITH THE THE BLACK CONNECTION AND BALL INSIDE , well i put my hand next to it and it does not feel as there is any suction and as though it s not pulling the water up the tube to be filtererd what have i done wrong or is this normal way its supposed to work PLEEEEEEEASE help as i was till 4am yesterday just staring at it note though my tank water is clean and outake pumping out water

so is the water circulating properly? is water coming out of the spray bar ?
yeah water seems to be circulating fine and surface wter moving to create oxgen .the spray bar not sure what that is is that the end that connects to the out take tube the bendy black piece?????? that is submerged 3/4 inches under water it blowing out water i can feel the pressure but it s not blowing out bubbles like my internal fluval 4s used to do also both tubes feel as though they have water running throuhgh them .
sorry if i sound mad but im not a that great when it comes to these filters

As long as you have water coming out back into the tank you are good. I dislike the fluvals and finally quit rebuying them after my last one arrived imperfect and a ***** to use. They, in my mind are an expensive filter and nice if you love have to fiddle with it because you have nothing else to do. Karen Campbell

thanks karen i do have water coming back into the tank ...yeah maybe i should of brought another filter i got confused as they show in the picturs that you have to have your intake and out take tubes right next to each other in the middle of the tank???? but as my hood has no holes to insert the tubes in through to to the water mine had to go eace end of the tank as this way the only place they could fit through but my cannister is running quiet at least, also is it ok the have the spray bar under the water level as fluval say i mysel have done this but would you recommend me getting an air pump in the tank to create some bubbles as the spray bar is not doing this.
thankyou for advice non of the shops around here wanna take the time to help me with the advice i need

I'm sure I've seen a video somewhere where they have the Inlet hose and Outlet hose at opposite ends of the tank back. I don't think it's important, and I'm pretty sure that is why you are able to "swivel" the value head on top of the canaster. If you really wanted to have them side by side you could alway cut a "knotch" out of the tank hood/lid to fit the hose?
