Hello,

Please would someone offer me advice?

My tank has been up and running for a few months now and I do regular water tests and water changes, as advised by my local quarium.

I had 5 tetras and 3 guaramis. Everything was fine until I added 5 male guppies at the weekend. These were introduced slowly and following guidance.
Within an hour most of these guppies were staying at the top. Not gasping or anything, just being close to the surface.
That night I noticed one guarami flashing about the tank and I thought maybe it was aggression. Now I wonder if it's parasitic infection...

That night one guppy died. Next morning all but one had died. That was two days ago. All seemed fine this morning but today one guarami died and an other is about to I'm sure. He's listless in the plant and struggling to breath.

All my test kits show excellent readings and the tank is not overcrowded. I've followed all advice.

Please can anyone help, I feel terrible.

Thanks

Ok bless them R.I.P.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Check the gills over to see if they look pale with excess mucas, or red and inflamed.
Any excess mucas production on there bodies or gills.

Thank you!
The bodies look healthy.

I didn't notice anything on the guppies, but I didn't see them long.

The gouramis were flashing about a bit. But one has been grumpy since they came a few weeks ago, knocking into others with his head (not biting though) so I misread it for aggression.
He seems to have been rubbing on the air tube.

It seems strange all this started on Saturday, when I added the Guppies. Can parasites affect a tank that fast??

Yes.
Does any of the fish look like they have been sprinkled in salt.
Any golden spots or a golden dusting on the fish.
Any greyish white patches on the fish.
Any excess slime on the fish.
Have you checked the gills.
Need to look at your tank size in gallons.
How many fish and which type.
Need to look at your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

There's nothing unusual on the fish. I've looked for white patches, cannot see anything
The water has been balanced for PH and all readings are very low indeed with my ammonia, nitrite, nitrate test kits. Near perfect. Water was checked by store on saturday too.

I'm worried I'll loose them all.

Only fish left are 5 tetras, 1 gourami and 1 guppy.

Next time you have your water tested at the lfs tell them to write the readings down for you.
I would be better if you could invest in liquid test kits of your own.
Turn tank lights out and shine a torch on the fish to see if you can see any golden patches glow up.
Ammonia and nitrite should be 0.
Without water stats its hard to say if its parasites at the moment without knowing your water stats, as water quality is the first thing you have to rule out.

Thanks, I've shined a torch on him, but I cannot see anything odd at all. Now my last gourami is flashing about the tank, rubbing on the plants. I'm obviously going to get medicine tomorrow. Up until tonight, I thought those guppies should not have been sold as they were very weak. Others had a sign on saying that they needed to aclimatise...so I thought there had been a mistake. Now I think there's something worse goind on.

Thanks for you help. I appreciate it. Hannah

I would take a sample of your water again to the lfs and this time tell them to write the readings down for you.
I would also pick a parasite med up which treats quite a few parasites just in case.
