Hi all =] havnt posted for a while here..
I have an approx 45gal tank that is stocked with 2 parrots, 3 silver dollars, and a large assortment of catfish. In another of my tanks, which is a smaller community tank, I have three medium-sized angels and in this tank I am planning to move all of the tankmates to a different tank, but I understand that angels need at least 18" depth to be happy, and this new tank doesn't fit that. So although it will be fine for my corys and small community fish that are currently living with my angels, I know that it wouldn't be fair to move the angels to a tank where they wouldn't be happy.
So, my question is this.. would my angels be ok in my cichlid tank? It may sound a silly question but I have no idea lol, and I don't want anything to go wrong so I thought I would check here first =]
If they can't go in there, My other alternitive will be to buy another new tank just for the angels, and stock it with some more angels or something lol.

Thanks in advance for any replies..

I've just read back over my post and realised that I forget to add I also have 2 firemouths, 1 yellow lab & a 'Redneck cichlid' as they were called in the LFS.

Oh wow, where to start....

All of those are in your 45g? You're going to have big problems.

1) Yellow lab is an African cichlid with completely different requirements than your New World cichlids.

2) 2 Parrots should not be in a 45g - they alone need *at least* a 55g, if not a 75g.

3) 3 Silver Dollars will also get way too big for your tank, they get up to 8" each!

4) What kind of catfish and how many? Cory cats? These are probably mismatched for your tank as well.

5) The two firemouths are pretty much the only thing in that tank that are suitable.

IMO, your best bet is to take everything other than the firemouths (and maybe the catfish, depending on what kind) back to the store and move the inhabitants of your smaller tank into this 45g.

ETA - I can't find anything on a "redneck cichlid", you really need to know what you're putting in your tank. You should ask the LFS what the scientific name is if it's a common name you're not familiar with.

Ok...well thank you..
I knew that eventually my silver dollars will need to be moved lol, I wasn't planning on keeping them in there forever, just until I get the bigger tank. The same with the parrots! The cats aren't corys lol, I have a few different types, all of them have been recommended by my LFS staff and I have been told that they are suitable for the other tankmates.
I didn't know that about the yellow lab; again I was told that he would be fine with my other fish and as this tank has been set up like this for over a year without any problems, I assumed they were correct lol.

Thanks again
