hi all, lookin a little help, have an aquarium healthy for about five years, no problems, then all of a sudden developed slime disease and fungus put in methyline blue tonight, not realising it would kill the bacteria, can you give me advice now how to get rid of the blue and how to get good bacteria goin, should i replace the sponges in the filter and when should i do this thanks..

Does it say in the instructions if it kills the bacteria, as the king british methylene blue dosnt.
Gravel vac and water change, black carbon to remove methylene blue from your tank.
Do you have any other mature tanks that you can take a sponge from.
If not you will just have to cycle the tank again.

hi thanks for replying, no i dont have another tank, does that mean i have to get new sponges for my filter then, also how soon should i start doin the water changes,, do you mean put a black carbon sponge in????

Yes black carbon sponge or ziolite as some country call it, removes meds.
Don't need new sponges.
What country are you from as there bio spiral that cycle a tank.

im in northern ireland, the instructions says it does harm filter so i took out the black carbon sponge and just left the two white ones, so do you think the two white ones will be okay or will i replace them, think ive just wasted my time the little firemouth is gettin worse this even, so when do you think i should start changing the water, was thinking of emptying the whole tank and buying a treatment to kick start the bacteria again what do you think, i appreciate your help

No don't empty all the tank the fish will get shocked with a full water change.
There is nutrafin benefical bacteria cycle, but to be honest it not that good.
If you want to buy new sponges that down to you.
So the fish have slime any flickding and rubbing.
There a med called anti slime and velvet by interpet.

my severum has slime but the firemouth has big white dots on its fins and gills doesnt look like whitespot, not really sure so got the meth blue, dont know if will help or not, so if i wait a few days and then change half the water and put in carbon sponge and keep changin every few days with the bio filter stuff will this work??

Yes water changes and carbon will remove the meds.
Do you have any mates that keep fish.
Will you check the gills to see if there pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.

Dull colour (mucus), detached skin, fraying of the fin. Mucus Hyperproduction. This called by caused by Slime disease (parasite, meds available), poor water conditioners (high Nitrogenous wastes), fFukes, stress.

hi no the little firemouth looks completely healthy and isnt flicking or rubbing but the spots are gettin bigger, just on the fins and gills, the spots are quite big dont look like salt prob about 3mm in size, do you think the meth blue will damage my other fish?? dont know what to do if it doesnt help, also the severum with the slime is healthy looking too apart from the rusty coloured slime on his sides, yes my water qualtiy was a bit off as the filter blew, think thats what caused all this,,,have no mates with fish, they all have sense!!!

If the fish have flukes this med is the best, it dosn't touch the filter.
There are eye laying flukes so you have to treat once a week for four weeks.

Its not flukes then it velvet if its a rusty colour.
Anti velvet and slime by interpet.
Get you some info on velvet.

Velvet worse than whitespot and hardier to get rid of.
Velvet can cause bacterial infections on top.
The spots on the fish do they look fluffy,.

The spots on the fins does it sound like this.

no the spots are very very white almost pearesent, look like they are starting to get a bit furry and they are on the base of the fins, no redness though, and the severum has no rubbing or flicking, very healty looking too apart from a little rusty colured patch on his back,,,god this is annoying

Just want to make sure first the spots don't look like a cauliflower or a cluster of berries.
Do the spots look like there filled with fluid.

Sorry for all the questions.

The rusty coloured patch is velvet, just have to find out now what the white spots are.

no just had another peek there, it actually looks now like the start of fungi, although it doesnt look like cotton wool, its been like this for about a week, just gettin worse every day, now they are quite big, no other fish has it though..
