My lovely fish are dying, it started a couple of days ago when one of my female platys hid away I thought she was giving birth so when I found her dead I thought she had died giving birth. I checked my water just in case and everything looked good.
The next day I lost another platy and a cory and then later same day an Angel but all my other fish looked perkier than normal.
then nothing died yesturday.
Today one more platy and another Angel, the strange thing is they seem to die when Im not looking, I know that sounds silly but i will sit and watch for hours looking for signs of disease, go out to collect kids from school and when I come back more dead.
I thought it might be agression in the tank but im not seeing any .
And then tonight Ive seen one of my platys rubbing itself against the gravel. none of my fish have spots or inflamed gills but its looking like a parasite now my problems are this I have a young platy fry that I saved from the filter in a safety net and I have a few apple snails that I would rather not lose.
What should I do? how should I treat?
please help cos at this rate by the weekend Ill have nothing left.

Livebeares are prone to internal parasites so check the anus of the fish to see if it's enlarged or red and inflamed.
Any red worms prutruding from the anus, or long stringy white mucas poo.

Hi Wilder I was hopeing you would reply Ive seen you help many others before.

Checked anus and cant see any redness or anything unusual, BTW its not just the livebearers that have died and I dont know if this helps but I have ( had ) 5 red platys and 5 yellow and all the yellows are OK just one of them seems itchy Ive now lost 3 reds

They seem itchy along sides of body Ive got some flubenol, got iy as free gift with something else once, will it kill my snails? will my baby platty be OK?

Yes it will kill your snails remove them.
I would add the med, follow the instructions.
Good luck.

Good luck.

Yes i think the baby platys should be fine it safe this med so it says with fish.

I have applied it. does it work very quickly? all my fish seem much more alert and my two surviving red platys are flicking all over the place swimming very very fast, Im hopeing this is normal? should I dose again in a few days time?
thanks again

Yes fish can act odd for a while when you add a med, have you increased aeration in the tank.
Keep an eye on them.
The instructions don't seem to tell you alot when you can redose.
I will try and find out for you.
Keep an eye on them.

Taken from the link.
How often should I use it?
Flubenol 15 works within hours of it being administered to your tank, but egg laying parasites will require further treatment as the eggs hatch into parasites. Items like camallanus worms and egg laying flukes may take up to 4 treatments at weekly intervals to ensure all the new parasites are attacked, by the time you see camallanus worms, the body cavity is already full of worms and eggs. Tapeworms and non egg laying flukes are killed first hit.

Thanks thats very interesting, I shall redose again every week for a few weeks just to be sure ive got everything, as its not going to harm the fish by doing that better to be safe than sorry.
You are a literally a life saver. :thanks:

Have the fish settled down yet.
