I'm not exactly a noobie i have kept fish for more than 8 years BUT i seem to have developed a major case of white spot (ick). I't started when my 2 angels layed needless to say they got eaten im not into breeding as such but extra fish are always a bonus. The stress on the mother caused a small case of white spot on her fins which cleared up when treated with WS3 i went on holiday some weeks later and left them to be fed by a friend when i got home i found i bag of several of my favourite fish dead which my friend had scoped out but looking in the tank i found that my discus and others where covered in a white opace fungus which i treated with hexamita but all of the fish seemed to be covered in what i can only describe as a extream case of white spot not just fins but bodies as well my discus im surprised they are alive there eyes are cloudy im also using the WS3 again but it just doesnt seem to be doing any thing. Oh yeh in case ur wondering the carbon filter is out to be honest im lost is this a dieseas i dont know about am i using the wrong treatments or is it just a case of too little to late . Just in case u need details i have a Rio 400 tank 400 liters roughly 5ft in length using the jewel internal filtering and as i have mentioned no carbon filter whilst i am attempting to treat them also the water levels are all pretty much spot on as it was one of the first things i checked . i would appreciate any advice on this situation many thanks jonny (GB)

Cloudy eye is a symtom of a desease not a desease in its self.
the fungus on the fish is it fluffy, as with columnaris can show the same symtoms as a parasite, laboured breathing and flicking and rubbing.

Does it look like this.
Some pics would be good.

Need to rule it out.

Does the fungus run along the back and come down the sides to form a saddle shape.

Look under columnaris.

Have you increased temp if so its getting worse and it's not fitting whitespot at the moment.
Bacterial infections get worse at highter temps.

Yeah, were going to need a little more information on texture of the substance covering the fish. My guess would be Columnaris, as it sounds more like that when you described it as white fungus. This fungus will look white and fluffy, maybe from the side like its clear fluff coming off of the white base part. I would increase temp. Keep on with a heavy duty anti-fungal medication and clean the filter media as i've heard the filter media can cling to the bacteria causes the diease to stick around. Make sure youre doing water changes, the more the better. I would be doing atleast 25% a day.

Cheers for the advice wasn't doing my water changes so regular as for pictures was trying to put some on but im new at fourums were do i post them so i can put a url address oh here. To be honest think it is a case of too little to late all my good fish seem to have it apart from my gold nugget and my 14" plec seems happy as do my angels so i think once the other two discus av coped it il continue treatment and eventually restock gutted but that seems the only option at the moment. as for Columnaris it doesnt seem to match it as there is nothing round the mouth and the fungues isnt pathes it more like all the fish and it strings along the fins and even hangs of like the fins are tatered it doesnt look like the pandora u sent either im looking through that site to see if i can find any thing that matches. thanks again

now dusting of talc sounds a lot more like it but i did try velvet treat ment towards the begining although i didnt perserver with it il get it on the go again one question i already have ws3 being used is it ok to chuck the velvet treatment in as well as long as i keep up the regualar water changes thanks again for the help jonny

No as you will be overdosing with parasite meds.
You will have to remove the med with a water change, and run some black carbon.
Velvet worse than whitespot and hardier to get rid of, are any of the fish gasping or laboured breathing.

None of the fish are gasping but to be honest things are beging to clear up although im down to my last discus i think i just had a really ####ty case of Ick there is still signs of infection cloudy eyes fluffy fins but they are pickled in spots i think may be when i treated my pregenant angel i didnt finish the treatment as well as i would like to think i did and given the two weeks i went away they came back with a vegence but things look to be clearing up the WS3 seems to be slowly but surely sorting out the lilttle well not gonna say the word that i think best describes them as i dont want telling off but u get the picture. thanks for your help but like i say i think im on to it i will keep you posted (jonny)
