1 :-( of my fish seems to have dropsy, his scales above his mouth have gone spiky and his eye has blown up.
What do I do and will my other fish be infected. :X

hi,
if it is indeed dropsy and it sounds like it you can get treatment if its not to far gone, has the fish body gone all pine cone yet? i had a fish with this once but it had to be put down as she stopped eating.

Hi,
Its just gone piney above the mouth

hi,
have you a spare tank to treat him in?
i used anti bacteria by interpet. you may be able to save him, good luck. :)

hi,
no its some thing they develop,
its not catching. i thought the same but no other fish i had was affected.

Dropsy is not actually a disease; it's a symptom of a disease, most often bacterial. It would help if you could fill this out;

Tank size:
pH:
ammonia:
nitrite:
nitrate:
kH:
gH:
tank temp:

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

Volume and Frequency of water changes:

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:

Tank inhabitants:

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):

Exposure to chemicals:

Digital photo (include if possible):

I could recommend meds, though the meds I usually use aren't available in the UK. If it's bacterial it certainly is contagious, and a separate tank would be best. It doesn't have to be a tank, many people use large Rubbermaid containers or a bucket for a hospital tank.

Dropsy is a tough one to treat; I've used antibiotics & epsom salt to get a 50% success rate.

I don't have a test kit yet so that info is not available i'm afraid

Your lfs can do testing for you. Have them write down the numbers, what's ok for the lfs may not actually be ok.
