Please Help

Im in the middle of a water change and need to take out my carbon. Question is ive got 4 bags of it out but theres also black sponges in there does that come out too? Im adding meds thats why im asking . Please reply soon. Also would it be ok to put the 4 bags of carbon in my fry tank for a week to keep them wet or will they catch fungus too?
