if its fluffy then its probably fungus/fin rot... see my post below on much the same sort of problem mate.

I aint no expert on this kinda thing mind you... but i have lost a considerable amount of fish over the last few days.

ok thanks spookey off to the lfs
theyve seen more of my money this week than i have

Certainly sounds like a fungus / external bacterial infection. Any chance of a photo to make sure ?
Be very careful how you treat the betta - they are very sensitive to most meds and will react badly to most full strength medications. Ask the folk over in the betta section for advice.

also get yourself some Melafix... its expensive, but damn good !! its made from tea tree and is a naturally medication. smells lovely too !
Be very careful with melafix and your betta - you should only dose at half strength. Ideally you should use Bettafix instead - specifically made for bettas.
Melafix should be fine on the other affected adult fish.

As for the fry - if you treat the tank, they will almost certainly die - sorry to say :(
If they are not affected, you can try removing the affected fish and take your chances with the fry in the main tank.

These kinds of infections / disease is more often a problem with water quality.
Make 100% sure that you are indeed treating for the correct disease.

Do you have any idea what your ammonia, nitrite and nitate readings are ?

Finally - never use two medications at the same time.

i have a 50 liter wiating for the filter to mature after being in my main tank 1 week is it worth taking the chance to save the rest of my fishies

ok not taking the risk the fry are moved

why not?? on some of the interpet stuff it actually tells you what meds can be used at the same time as the one your treating with.
Yep - and if you read carefully, it's not medications that can be mixed. Only things like the water clarifier / particle removers etc. Not actual medications.

Most medications have components that do not mix (or react badly) with other medications - this can be lethal to the fish.

Also, medications are quite aggressive in their treatment - and this puts an enormous strain on the fish.
Trying to cope with two different medications can often be lethal.

If it doesn't explicitly say you can mix the medication (and with what), assume you can't.
