My husband has 2 Red Tiger Oscars..we're having a problem with both but each has their own.

The larger has what appears to be holes in his fins and tail =/ They are actually small holes completely through, about the size of a pencil head.

The smaller of the two's eye is actually pertruding out of his head although he does not have any spots or holes..i have found some information on Pop Eye but I honestly wanted to double check with some of you since you are obviously more educated on taking care of various species of fish.

They are together in a 30gallon tank with 2 little goldfish. He cleans the tank regularly and we have tried tablets added to the water for parasites but that did nothing. They also have recieved an Ich (sp?) treatment as well.

I apologize as these are not my fish and I do not know alot about them, I just do not want them to suffer and hopefully can find a cure or make them more comfortable.

Thankyou all for you time in reading and for your future responses =)

At a guess, I'd say water quality problem...possible overstocking.
Finrot, pop-eye can both have bacterial cause. Ich/other parasite med's would not address this.

What size are all the fish? Any water tests?

no test that i can recall (honestly i don't know of which test i should run)

the largest is maybe 9 inches and the other about 7inches

i have an even smaller aquarium that i could seperate the two untill the 55 is finished if that would help with the overstocking...
i really apologize for my ignorance but are you saying the holes in his fins are the finrot?

In my opinion and experience the biggest key to keeping healthy fish is doing regular partial water changes , with Oscars I wouldn't do less than 30% [ more even ] [ they grow quick ] of the tanks volume per week .

Os can be quite messy , and eventually succumb to nitrate build up , this could be your problem .

How often does your husband do water changes ?

Also a 55 is OK for now , but your Os will not be able to turn very easily once full grown in that tank , would also be quite cramped .

A PH and nitrate test would be my suggestion . ;)

Good luck

how big are the oscars? in the small confines of a 30 gallon with the goldies which are in their own right "messy" fish. and combined with 2 oscars it would be easy for things to get a bit out of whack. my sugesstion would be for your husband to increase his water change regiment to everyother day. until the next tank for these fish is ready.

are you saying the holes in his fins are the finrot?
Yes, that's what I was thinking. Clean water can sometimes remedy both problems.
Melafix can help w/ the fins, but the wc's alone might do it.

Basic tests to have would include Ammonia, Nitrite, pH, and Nitrate.
You shouldn't need the first two (these values should always be zero), but certainly something good to have 'just in case'. The nitrate test would no doubt be a good indicator of how overstocked the tank is atm...and whether an earlier transfer would be a good idea.

Thankyou all so much...hopefully i'll have a good update to fill you in on =)

Thanks to all =)
