Hi I recently finished cycling(fishless) my 55 gallon aquarium with two filters one I went out to buy a whisper advanced power filter 30-60 gallon and one that came with it which was for a 40 gallon aquarium. I would like some opinions on the selection of fish that I have made to put in my tank soon. I love the blue acara and would like to put one in my tank don't know if it is a good idea, both for space and aggressiveness, to put two in there? Also I would like to have 1 redtailed black shark and would like to know if there would be any problem with the blue acara also in there? That's as far as my selection goes and would like to know of any other suggestions to stock my tank, without overcrowding it , to make it look good. Any critques and suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you.

That sounds great, actually.

2 blue acaras
1 RTBS
a large school of serpae tetras or tiger barbs (16?)

Make sure you're commited to making the water changes necessary to keep the tank clean. That was a drawback to the mbunas, though I'm glad I went with them. Sounds like you will be too with the acaras. Good luck!

Thank you all for your responses greatly appreciated. Here are a couple of more combinations of cichlids without the RTBS:
1. 1 Blue Acara, 2 Blue convicts, maybe a jack dempsey if not over crowding.
2. 1 Blue Acara, 1 green terror, 1 jack dempsey.
3. 1 Blue Acara, 3 convicts.
4. 1 Blue Acara, 3 rainbow cichlids.
5. 1 Blue Acara, 3 festivums.
I would appreciate someone to tell me of the good combinations. Also any critiques, advice or even adjustments to help me out would also be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you.

I think 4 or 5 wuld be best. I like 5 most. You could also try jack dempsey with convicts and green terror but they would be much more aggressive.
