OK they are male and female, can you see that the first one has alot more colour tan the second one? thats how you can tell most of the time, also males tend to have more pointy fins. hope this helps.

lol I wondered if someone would ask that, its a breeding mop for my rainbows, It makes it easier for me to collect the eggs.

9 times out of 10 you can tell by the colour but the males fin are usually alot more pointy.

Hi there,

I reckon you have 2 males.

One of the key ways to sex these guys is to look at the black lateral spot on the side of the body. In females you will see pearlescent spangles within the spot, males don't have this spangling.

Well i did try, but lets just say the response wasn't so.......helpful :p

Oh heck this is confusing :S

No, very simple :)

Check the black blotch on the side of the body (when the fish is relaxed there should only be 1 black blotch visible), if it is covered in nice blue spangles it's a female. If it is missing the spangles it's a male!!.

A couple of explanations to make my rambling clear:

'Blue rams' can be sexed using a variety of characteristics. The males
are generally larger (most prominent in adults), have slightly longer
fins (dorsal) and lack the blue spangles in the black mid-lateral spot
found in the females. Wild fish are very easy to distingush, but the
cultured varieties may be a little harder, assuming both sexes are
present. If I were asked for one reliable difference, I would say the
blue spangles within the black mid-lateral blotch is the best method (it
also works on young fish and the cultured varieties).

Males have blue scale located around the edges while females have them in the central part. I've seen females that had higher dorsal spines than on the males shipped with them.

It probably died because it was so confused about it's changing sexuallity!

(never thought I'd get to use that word on a fish forum - wohoo!)
