my tap water nitrates rating is 50mg/litre, what can i do to get it down?

i was all the sponges once a month and they were last done a week ago - is this enough or should i do it more regularly?

Don't touch your sponges till there really gunked up, and you then only do one of them at a time in old tank water.
Tha tap nitrate reading is how did you leave it 24 hours before you got the chart out to take a look.

i'll take another sample now and leave it till tomorrow for the reading.

Usually go on nitrate readings, i just look at mine can tell if they really mucked up i just give them a slight squeeze in old tank water only one. sponge though.
London yes bad area for a nitrate reading.
I would go to tropical chit chat and tell them your nitrate readings high they will help you more, all i know is some have to use RO water or something like that.
