hi please help, i have been keeping cichlids for about five years with no problems, now all of a sudden my firemouth broke out in big white spots on his fins, also my severum has velvet disease, put methylene blue in tank this evening and as i never used this before was unaware it would kill the bacteria in tank, how and when should i get rid of the blue water, also should i replace sponges in filter im panicking now incase ive done more harm than good please help

Calm down, calm down  ok first of i don't think methylene blue is specifically ment for treating those diseases, however whatever it will do to it will be GOOD, afterall it's one of the oldest treatments in the book :good: I would carry out a water change every 4 days and eventually start treating with a specific treatment for the illnessses.I have used methylene blue witohut removing my filter pads before, infact thats the only way I have ever done it.So I think you will be able to get away with that one.Post on the emergency forum sections.Someone named wilder will be able to help you much more than me!

here we go again cause im gonna say you need a quarentine/hospital tank to treat any illness which i firmly believe. There is no need to allow other healthy fish in your main tank to become sick while treating the sick fish. (If possible), move each sick fish into seperate hospital tanks and treat each individual fish for its illness. It may be too late to do this now but always try to catch it at the first sign of the illness so that nothing else in the tank will be affected. The white spot has prob already spread throughout the whole tank so I would say treat the whole tank as you have for the white spot but you can prob still get the sev out to treat its illness seperately.

I asgree with cheesy, that posting in the emergency forum would do much more help :good: (as I'm sure you've already done by looking at the post times)
