I'm buying another Juwel Rio 180 tank to add to my collection. I've already got a community tank and a barb community tank. I was thinking of keeping Discus in this one. Has anyone got any ideas, what else I could put in the tank, or how many Discus in total. Or even another totally different setup??!!

From many articles that I've read and LFS that I have spoke to the minimum tank size for discus is 24 gallons and mine in nearly twice that amount.

Never believe anyone that works in fish/pet shop... Maybe that is the recommendation where you live. Not in here, but we are probably ahead of our time (in Finland)...

I certainly wouldnt recomend keeping Discus in a 24g tank but a 40g tank is pleanty big enough for a breeding pair of Discus.

In Finland and much of the rest of continental Europe they seem to think you need to own a time share on a stretch of the Amazon to keep a shoal of neons

:p
I agree - 40 gallons should be enough for a pair. As for 24 gallons - no that's deffinately too small. You wouldn't even keep an angel in a 24 usualy so the more sensitive discus would be a bad choice.

Well, we don't keep angels in that small tank either ;) Maybe (probably) that is the recommendation in there too, after 5 years... Because 5 years ago we would have recommended that sized aquarium for angels and discus...
