Hullo,

I finally have some pics of the other mystery fish a mate got me.

Here they are, not great but I did my best.

edit.-I changed most of them them, because they were rubbish, for a more recent, better one I took.

Thanks for your time

doris

ps.

Actually Iam really pleased with the last photo I took, looks good don't you think?

perhaps should mention the fish has a really deep metalic blue sheen that the photos don't show.

please someone tell me what it is IAm desperate!

thanks

doris

Oh, another mad thing.

It keeps jumping out my tank!

The lid is about 3 inches above the water, and the fish keeps jumping right out and landing with a splash a few inches from his take off pooint!

Iam concerned that the jumping behaviour may be caused by trying to evade my Nimbochromis venustus, as the venustus does chase the mysery fish occasionaly.

Still no ideas chums?

If it has yellow fins, it looke like pseudotrophes acei. Look in the species link at top of main page and click on african cichlids. The description is at the bottom of the list. Is that it? Hope this helps. :)

I think it looks most like the Pseudotropheus acei 'Ngara' picture that I found online.

Although they only seem to have 7 or so stripes, mine has 13 stripes.

This fish isn't in the forums mbuna list, yet.

Assuming it is a Pseudotropheus acei 'Ngara' what are their aggresion levels like?

thanks for your help
doris

I managed a better picture.

Does that help IDing him/her?

thanks

doris

It would apperar mine has way more stripes than the fish you suggested.

electric blue Johannis http://www.petvillage.net/images/100_0734e.jpg not a very good pic but its simular to yours but i can't find any with as many stripes as yours but i will keep looking

Thanks for your continued efforts to help me mate.

The stripes look right, but the top fin has no yellow edge like mine, and it is much more blue, like its face is, and it has red and orange lower fins, also unlike mine.

Could mine be a colour variation?

thanks chief,

doris

this is the fish mixmaster jay suggested, what do you chaps think?-

Hehe Thanks for trying again, some do look similar to mine.

But Iam not convinced.

This is an odd situation, I would have though some cichlid buff would know right away.

Although my African cichlid book doesn't feature it, either.

It may be, as you suggested, one which changes appearance significantly upon reaching maturity.

thanks mate

Or of course, horror of horrors, a Hybrid.
I hope that isn't the case, but from the shop's behaviour that I told you about who knows?

It's not a P.acei ngara, they have a white tail.

My best guess is a young male Copadichromis sp. "Kawanga" (Makonde). Underneath the picture in the link is a drop down menu of juvenile pics which look similar to yours.

Or a Copadichromis sp. "Kawanga No Spot" (Undu)

Apparently the white blaze on the head shown in the pic from the links may or may not be present depending on their location.
