I got this guy free when I bought a used tank He? was given to me as a parrot cichlid, but I really don't think that's what he is. I know next to nothing about cichlids and I couldn't find a picture of anything silimar. Any info would help!

The second one is Pseudotropheus acei, it's one of the mbuna species from Lake Malawi, Africa.

Wow that's pretty cool, and I got him with the feeder fish!

and how does it look like the fish is dirty?? Maybe it's my photography skills...

So established the big fish is a convict. thanks! :) but about the little guy I forgot to mention that he? is only about an inch long. I know the picture is really bad so it's hard to tell but in normal light he looks more grey with a blue tint, not as blue as the flash made him. I looked up Pseudotropheus acei and their fry seem to have pretty pronounced stripes this little guy doesn't have any.

im no expert but should you be keeping it with that albino tiger oscar?

in the first pic

The little cichlid? he's not in with the bigger fish, he's still in my community tank. And as far as the convict he seems happy enough his nipped fins are from the auratus that's in there. I also have a firemouth that seems happy enough with everything. They've been together for about two months if the oscar was agressive toward the other fish I would move him but so far he's not

Thats a jelly bean parrot.

50% parrot fish (which many people believe have convict, severum, midas amongst others in there lineage) 50% convict.

Monstrosity orrible thing....just be glad they didnt cut his tail off like they normally do.

Face and fin shape are all wrong to be a convict....deffo Parrot.

I always thought he was kind of cute :( I've never heard of jelly bean parrot before, are they common? I didn't think he looked quite like a convict either but then again i don't know one bit about cichlids.

It's not a jellybean parrot but just a regular one (though not as parrot shaped as usual). How big is it as it should be losing its juvie colours soon. It may even be a flowerhorn/parrot cross.

He's about 3 inches maybe a tid bit larger. I have no idea exactly how old, I've had him for about two months

Their stripes can come and go depending on their mood, stress level, or interest in breeding. They are typically a purply/bluish/gray when young and develop into a nice purple w/yellow fins. They grow up to 7", are quite peaceful (for mbuna anyways) and prefer to be in larger groups. They are also unusual in that they spend much of their time swimming at the top or the tank. I found they work great as dithers for yellow labs, mine became much more adventurous once I added the acei. :good:

This guy loves the albino oscar, sticks to him like glue. Does anyone know the scientific name so I can look up a little info a little easier?
