can any one give me any advice, my tank which was set up nearly 2 weeks ago has the highest possible reading for ammonia, every thing else is fine but im now loosing fish because of it. i bought a chemical for reducing ammonia by putting a capful in every day but it hasnt helped at all & i did a half water change last night in the hope of getting rid of some but nothing is working! does it get in the tank just through the water coming through the taps? my local fish shop told me that. i have all new stones, ornaments, filter, heater etc so nothing should be contaminated. PLEASE HELP I CANT STAND WATCHING THE POOR GUYS!

I'm afraid its part of the cycling process ammonia and nitrite going off the chart.
All you can do is water changes and increase aeration.
Do you have any friends that keep fish. maybe they could donate a mature filter sponge.

What's your location as you can buy bio spira.
You need to read up in the nitrogen cycle.

How many gallons is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Do you have water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

I swear by the stuff. Buy it cold keep it cold. Even in the trip from the store i keep it in a lunchbox with some ice packs.
Ive seen it sold in stores around here (state side) sold in unrefrigerated boxes so keep a keen eye out and keep up the water changes. fish in cycles are no fun, for you or your fish.
