My tyre track eel is almost white! When I saw him last night he looked a little light, but thought nothing of it because he "changes color" and looks like that a lot!

I'm so worried, what causes this what should I do?? All I can think it could be is something he ate. Please help fast, the stores close soon if I need to get something!

water parameters: pH = 7.0; NO2 = 0; NO3 < 5; NH3/NH4 = 0.

I'm doing a partial water change now and ading some salt, BTW there is nothing wrong with the goldfish in the tank.

You have a nitrite reading there the water quality could be stressing him out, do a water change, how long has the tank been set up.

How many gallons is the tank and how many fish and which type.

Its 15 gals, both goldie and eel are still very small (I know how big they'll get), tank is planted, has been set up 5 months. Nitrate is almost "0" but not quite.

The eel eats live foods, this is why I think he is sick from something he ate

The eel could reach 3 ft, and the recommended stocking for goldfish is 20 gallons for the first, 10 for each additional, but you seem to be aware of this already.

What you need to determine is what has caused the Nitrite reading. You say the tank is five months old, is the filtration coping? Is there a possibility of overfeeding?

I am no expert on this fish, CFC might be the person to ask. Apart from colour change, has there been any other points to note? Any behavioural change? Is it still feeding?

Sorry, I messed up my 2 and 3, it's the NITRITE at "0" and the NITRATE at almost "0", which really shouldn't be causing this kind of stress.

your eel likes brackish water. have you been keeping it in fresh? and are now adding salt?

From all I've read and heard I don't think there is a problem keeping him in freshwater (correct me if I am wrong).

I am not adding salt to make the water brackish, but only a therapeutic dose, since I have no clue what is wrong and it certainly won't hurt.
