Today i noticed i am getting algae on the wood piece in a tank and on artifical corals also. I am still not sure if its algae or what. the stuff is kind a like cotton or thread. i check temp which is ok. PH is ok. what else i can check its a new tank one weak old. please help

Ammonia and nitrite are the really important water stats to know - pH is unimportant for the bulk of community fish, as long as it's stable.

If it's white, it could be a water mold from the wood. I had this once with a new piece of driftwood. I took it back out, boiled it for an hour and let it dry, and after a few daily water changes, the white stuff went away. It grew extremely fast for the week or so it lasted.

If it's grean or greanish brown it could be hair algae. Don't worry this won't harm your fish. Sometimes a little bit of algea is good. It helps lower the ammount of nitrate in you tank and makes it safer for your fish. You can buy algea scrubbers at you lfs (local fish store). I think they're mainly for the glass, or acrylic, though.
