His name is Benny and I think he must have scraped his head on the bogwood a few days ago while spawning with his female. The scales looked a little cut and his eye looked a bit hurt, but as far as I could tell still working. Now due to my complacency its got worse and infected :-(

Now its like this:

Please help confirm what it is. I've started tonite using some strong anit-bac my local fish guy told me to use.
I'm really sorry for him, he's the best lil male apisto I've ever had, the pictures show him coming up to say hi like he always does :-( , just now he looks and acts really poorley. I just hope he is ok

Can't see the pics to dark, if it has got infected you will need to use anti internal bacteria med and some melafix good luck.

Is it one eye, or both? If it's both eyes, it's pop-eye, but if only one eye looks like it's bulging, it may not be pop-eye (or so I am told). I had a molly once, who sratched her eye on a fake plant. It bulged out and may have looked hazy (I can't remember exactly: it was 2 years ago). I left her alone, and it got better on its own. If the eye looks infected, you can treat it with meds.

its only one eye thankfully. I'm giving him some anti internal bacterial stuff now. Sorry about the pics (need a new digital camera anyway). I suppose i just gotta wait. in the meantime put some salt (not alot) in to help the medicine and raised the temp to increase the metabolic rate to help it work faster (was told on relyable advice to do that)

Could anyone tell me what to do, as I have no realy expericane with diseases in my fish. Can you tell me:

1.will he go blind?
2. how long to heal with proper medication?
3.will he breed again? If so will it effect fry in anyway?
4. Is there a point that I should concider putting down?

Just follow the instructions on the packet how long to treat, there is always a chance he could go blind but they can survive with one eye, don't breed him for a while with using the antibiotic meds, it shouldn't interfer with his breeding, good luck hope he pulls through.

Increasing the temp. speeds up the rate at which bacteria multiply so that may not be the best idea with a bacterial infection :p Also, pop-eye can be in either one or both eyes and is caused by internal bacteria so you are treating it correctly if this is what it is. Regardless, anti-internal bacterial meds should do the trick for most infections. Cloudy eyes as mentioned earlier, BTW, are caused by poor water quality as opposed to an infection (though sometimes it's fungus). Wilder answered your last few questions but I'll add that putting him down isn't necessary as long as he is still acting relatively normal and especialy as long as he is still eating. Isolating him so the other fish don't catch the infection, however, might be a good idea.

Well I am starting to get a few small slivers of hope.

I did quite a few tests: Oxygen, Nitrate and pH at my local store. But all tests have come up pretty good (if there are anytests that might also be a factor please say). This morning I was really concidering putting him down. But I decided to do a big water change and replace my filter with a really powerful one. Now he seems much more lively (still nowhere near great but better). I also saw him inspect something with the bad eye so fingers crossed not yet blind and to my surprise I saw the female display to him (she really wants to lay eggs bless her  ) he wasnt as keen than usual but he did flash up his fins a bit.

Fingers crossed he will be ok...
