Morning all,

Well my tank has now been fishless cycling for just over a month now. Over the past week the ammonia levels have been dropping, so I have been topping the tank up with ammonia.

The weird thing is that the nitrite levels went up to about 0.5ppm and stayed constant at that level. I tested it again this morning and the ammonia is back to zero, and now the nitrite is also at zero? I tested both again just to make sure. I also tested the nitrate which is up 20ppm.

So am I right in assuming unless the Nitrite has magically vanished there must be bacteria in there converting it to Nitrate?

When I initially started the tank I threw in some Tetra safe start, so unsure if that is why this appears to have completed the cycle without an apparent Nitrite spike.

At any rate I am going to continue to cycle the tank for another week just to confirm. In the mean time I can actually start planning what fish to put in there :)

My fishless cycle did exactly the same thing, Waterdrop said it can happen sometimes. I never got a nitrite reading above 0.5ppm and it only took a couple of days for this amount to drop to 0ppm in 12hrs.

Looks like eaxactly that, Nitrite won't magically disappear so something is consuming it. It's good news :good:.

It seems to be not uncommon from what I can see on the forum :) Congrats!
