i was wondering couse i have a male swordtail and 2 female platys ( in septerated tank of course ) swordtail is alone in a 10 with some unown juvi frys and the 2 platys are in a diff tank with 2 gups and some juvi frys and 1 shrimp neways i was wondering can they mate ???

Yes, they can. They both come from the genus Xiphophorus so it's possible. They mate quite readily too. Most of them are already hyrbids of each other though, since they have been crossed over numerous times to get colors and finnage variations. It's still not the best idea, as you don't really get anything special and the males will sometimes have stumpy swords.

So you want to hybridise them? Can I just ask what you are expecting?

It's still the same ratio. However, if you are going to hybridise them, use Swordtail Females. Swordtails have bigger fry then Platies, and if you have a Platy mother, she'll have fry in her that are too big, and could ultimately lead to her death. At the very least, pain and birthing difficulties.

the male swordtail is the only male i have out of all the livebeares i hve so i kinda wana breed them...

can guppy and swordtail mate couse i have some virgen female juvi but gonna wait tell they grow up though )

Well, then I'd wait if you want to hybridise them. It's not good for the female to have fry in her that are too big.

No, Guppies and Swordtails cannot mate. They come from two different genuses, Poeciliid and Xiphophorus. Even if they could hybridise, I definitely would not recommend doing that. Swordtail fry are much larger then Guppy fry, and I doubt the females would make it through the pregnancy. You always have to use the bigger female in the cross for it to have the best chances of working, and not giving them pain.

I'd wait then. It doesn't seem like you'd have much room for fry to grow up, am I right? And believe me, she'll keep having fry over and over and over. Are you talking about getting a blonde Swordie? Good luck finding one that hasn't been impregnated before! You might have to get it very very young, and raise it up yourself, if you want to be sure.

yea ima wait but the blonde im tanking about is a pineapple swordtail so ya thanks for r help and when we go out for shopping ima see if y mom will buy me a pineapple swordtail ( i used to have 6 or 7 just them ina 10 but all died and a mysterys fry showed up and i gave it to my cuzin) so yea i seen then in the stores

well i got 2 females but the 3 are in a 2.5 couse i got 7 tigerbarbs by them self in the 10 that the male swordtail was in

Do you have a plan to upgrade them soon? As Swordtails really get too large for a 2.5g. It also could possibly be stressful for the females to be pestered by the male and not have much room to get away. Is it pretty heavily planted/decorated?

Tiger Barbs can be nippy, so I don't know if I'd risk it. Swordies and Gouramis might get along, if it was a big enough tank. What kind of Gourami? And what size tank?

I'd definitely add something in to there for the females to hide in. You don't want them getting very stressed out, and possibly dying. Is the 2.5 just a quarantine tank? What size are you looking to upgrade them to?

my other 10 then b/c i can prolly add the derf thiere is 2 of them but i can add them in teh 2.5 AND the othr is a combtail + a albino frog

i have 2 combtails too.. so willll the combtail and derf breed at all?
