I bought two platys a couple weeks ago,not sure if they are pregnant,Are they the same as guppies?,Do they get the black spot?. I have an album at yahoo,if you want to see a pic of one of them. Not sure how to link it here but can try.

If your platies are pregnant they usually will have a gravid spot. If you can tell that they are getting rounder in the belly it is a good indication that they are pregnant. THey usually give birth every 4-6 weeks.

Can I just ask are your plattys both female or do you have one female and one male?

It's just that the ratio should be 1 male to about 3 females in order to spread out his attention between them and prevent the female from getting too stressed by constant harrassment.

Well I bought three, two are still here, I bought two females and one male,The females both are kinda blue and white and have a black ring around where their tails hook on. ) They also have a big black spot where the babies get in the guppies.They don't seem to be getting fatter,but they are deep down through. I have pics on yahoo photos if you wonna see. I have had them about three weeks.

If she is in a tank with 4 other males...I'd say 99% chance she is pregnant!

Is she a dark, or bright color? That can make it hard to see the gravid spot...
