i have 5 male and 1 female platy. will they breed and if so how do i know if she is pregnant?
thanks

oh dear, have you room for 9 females because one single female with 5 males after her 24/7 will stress her out so much you prob wont get fry, the rule for happy livebearers is 1-2 females per male as males will try and mate with females lots, maybe you can swap some males for females.

i have only just realised as i am new to keeping live bearers. you would think the lfs would of told me before i bought them. i just asked for 6 platys. i may have room for another few females but i dont know my max capacity. i have a 30g tank and in it are 5 male guppies, the platys a red tail shark and a zebra loach.

thas the problem with some pet shops -_- , you will need to have the right amount per female as stress can cause females to abort, can you take some males back to swap? also do watch the red tail they need lots of room and hiding places, they can become agressive with age.
