platys pregnant????

how can you tell if your platy is pregnant my female platy has a swollen stomach is this an infection? thanks chris.

i want to know this question aswell. My platy seems to have quite a large stomach, but it has been on its' own for the last few months so it couldn't be pregnant could it...?

yes she could be pregnant because livebearers can hold the sperm of a male for up to i think its 5 batches of fry.

yes i think they may be pregnant chris as my friend has had 1 aswell and same thing happened for a month and latter gave birth and died.

my fish will eat the babies
so couldi seperate the babies inot a container on their own without the mum when they are born, and just feed them on crushed flake food...?

Easyiest thing is to get a breeding trap from your LFS and sit it in your tank. The female goes in the top part and when the fry are born they fall down through small slits into the lower part so the female can't get at them. Also get something to feed the fry on, i think the one i got was liquifry No.2, feed 4-5 times a day till big enough to accept crushed flake.
