Hi,

I have 3 Platys in a 35litre tank. Two of my Platys, Huey and Dewey have been pooing a lot the last two days. The poo is very long and off white.

Apart from the pooing, all of there other behaviour seems normal.

I have checked the water stats, Amonia, Nitrite and Nitrate and all of these levels are excellent.

The Platys normally have a couple of flakes every evening - they normally eat them all in around 2 minutes. I didnt feed them last night.

I have read that long poo could be caused by a poor diet, so i have now given then a very thinly sliced piece of cucumber which has been quartered.

Di you know what could be causing the issue, and have any idea's on how i cold resolve it?

Thanks.

What colour flake are you feeding them? - their poo should be brown or the colour of the food they are eating.Long stringy white poo can be a sign of internal parasites for which you can buy meds either at your local fish shop or online, or it could be consitpation. For constipation give them a blanched pea - peel the skin off and crush it into tiny pieces.

Ravkular...........is your other Platty called Lewey?

Hi Gilli,

The flakes are multicoloured, but turn white when put in the water. I think i will try the pea, and if that doesnt work then try and get some parasite medication.

Hi Twinklecaz,

Your right the third is called lewey! they were originally called zippy, george and bungle, but the new names suit them much better!

This wont help, but.... I had a Molly which started doesnt white stringy poo and it died overnight.... So get some med asap. The other fish were fine and still are (He died a couple of weeks ago). So would make sense that it is just internal and not throughout the tank.

Good luck!
