Ok so my prego platy is hiding in the plants i put in her tank for the fry. She's constantly in the middle of them, is this normal behavior? I'm just wondering b/c she looks like her fins are moving very fast and was wondering labor or sick?? my fake plants in the other tank aren't that big so i can't say its like the same since i never saw the platys swim near the fake ones that much.

Thanks!

one more thing maybe im sooooo paranoid, but i think her gills look kinda redish or somethin, is she ok? she is the last of my original fish that we got my son for xmas, which sorta turned into my fish too hehehehe ;)

Ignore all previous posts, she is fine now and swimming around. I did a water change and got a kit to test ammonia levels and ph for both tanks and did some stuff now all readings are safe for ammonia..but for PH what is a good level for her to have the babies in?? It is in Basic right now like high basic I think 7.2 or so...Also, my tank after putting some of those treatments in is so white and almost seems to have a film on the top any ideas?? Also, I found out my dad kept my childhood tanks at his new house so I plan on bustin those out too and starting a cycle since I will need a new ready tank once the fry are born as my one 10 gallon will be at capacity once I move the female back in. ANyway HELP ME on this white stuff thing is it just residue from the PH balancing and ammonia thing i did and what is a good PH level for her? Also, b/c there is a junk on the bottom would a small cory its a small size one pygmy something cory, anyway, would it clean the 2.5 gal tank w/o eating the fry? SHould I get a snail? Btw the cory is like an inch or two at most.

Thank yoU!!

Brian

Ive seen this white film problem discussed before on the forums and have never really seen a satisfactory answer to it.Some say its caused by an excess of bacteria ,others that its because the waters not filtered and others said that its because there is no movement in the water. The answers were to do water changes,to float a piece of kitchen towel for a second and remove it that way.Others said to put in an airstone or clean the filter.
Glad to here your platy is behaving like her old self again.
I dont think pygmy cory would eat the fry but it is not a good idea to keep one on its own as they are usually kept in a group. Its also very sensitive to water conditions.Ideally your fry tank should be bare bottomed as most of the food you feed will go uneaten. This means its far easier to see and remove when you are changing your water.
RE the ph.If your platys were bought locally they most likely have been living in the same ph in the lfs and the fry will be born into that phand should have no problems.I would not mess with ph unless you really need to and even then I would try and use one of the non-chemical methods. What is your normal ph?

I did another water change today so i don't know we'll see...crap i have gravel in teh tank should i remove it rinse it out and throw it into the main tank before she gives birth or will this freak her out too much (im guessin yes)..regarding corys/cleaning, should i leave it at 0 or put in a couple to clean up after the fry? Thanks regarding other answers I also saw a post about the same topic and wasn't really satisfied...Also, thanks about PH, i just wasn't sure do platys like BASIC or the midrange one? I'm guessing you're right though, my platy has survived this far with no prob so maybe my PH is ok at 7.2 or so.

Thanks again!

About cories, they are not actually algae eaters or crap eaters. They will eat leftover food, if not more than a day old, but other than that they need to be fed nutritious food of their own. Lovely little fish, but they are not tank cleaners.
