Hi again

I have 2 female platys at the moment and plan to add a few more fish eventually. Will it be okay to add 2 male guppies with the Platys ???? Also, can goldfish live okay with Platy & Guppies ????

My tank is 48l how many fish can I add to this if I stick to the above ????

Thank you. :)

hi i am new to this site, however i have a number of years and tanks experience. I am aware that if you have male guppies they can and will cross breed with your female platys. i would advise if you are keeping livebearers that you stick to all male or all female. Female guppies have less colour and do not have fancy fins like the males.
I never like to give an answer for stocking levels, as it is difficult to get right based on, fish size, breed, plants/no plants, filter Media and your cleaning cycle.
Goldfish can have the temperature raised to live with tropical fish, but i would not advise it if you are new as it takes time and needs to be watched for any problems the goldfish may have.
I hope this helps a bit.

Your tank is around 10 gals, goldfish are coldwater fish plus they need a minimum 20 gal per goldfish to be happy.

it's normally around 1 inch of fish per gallon,so platies are around 2 inches, and you've got 2 which makes 4 inches,so you've got roughly 6 inches of fish to play with :)

Guppies should be ok

guppies WILL NOT breed with ur platies. They may try bless them but they will not concieve (any fry u see in the tank will come from stored platy/swordtail sperm inside the platy females)
3 or 4 more fish would be fine to add,be it guppies or platies, male or female.

Ive had guppies and platies in a tank together (both sexes of both fish) and they were fine

My profile pic is a female platy male guppy hybrid, they were the only fish in the tank for approx 1 year, never any swordtails or male platys. started with 3 female platys never breed before then added 3 male guppies.
