Hi,
I have 2 male platies and 4 females, they have all been in my tank for about 3/4 months with no problems and all are still very healthy and eating.
However, the platies have seporated into two groups with 1 of the males taking complete control of the tank and bringing with he a harem of 3 females.
This group are very happy together, however, the other male and female fish have to hide away all the time and the dominant male will ALWAYS chase them back in to a corner. You can see that these two fish a frightened of him and it is only when I feed them that they are able to swim freely in the tank while the food id there without being chased.
My question is:
Should I remove these two fish and return them to the LFS to stop them being stressed out or if I do this would the dominant male then pick on one of his favoured females just to keep his authority in the tank.
