i have 4 females and 2 males. the males i think are gay because they never try to breed. they have been in the tank for almost a year and have not bred once.

the females somtimes try but the males wont have any of it. they give the odd shove off to the females.

the water temp is kept at 80F, nitrate is 40, nitrite is 0, ammonia is 0, gh is 25, and the ph is 8.6

what could be wrong here? they are housed in a large 55 gallon tank.

Can you get your nitrate down try a water change, what colour are the females to the male, as sometimes they go with colour.

Feed them lots of conditioning food like live bloodworms (or frozen) and brine shrimp. Eventualy your fish will breed. You may also want to try lowering the temp gradualy and then bringing it back up again over a period of several days.

Nothing is wrong with them. Takes time to adjust, maybe even over a month.

If it has something to do with the water quality, add cooler, more acidic water and condition with live and frozen prove. However, I doubt this is the reason why they won't breed.
