Hi all,

Yesterday, I spotted the first time since two months that a female platy has her tailfin shaped like a descendant moon (or like the letter "c").

I was wondering what could have happened?

The long-arm shrimps are only somewhat greater than an inch and their claws are tiny, transparent, and almost invisible, so I don't think they could have been it.

are you sure they've been ripped off and that it's not something like fungus/fin rot? check your water stats are ok

could just be a bit of fin nipping between the platy's, happens occasionaly with virtually all fish, have a good watch for agression

No, absolutely not sure, only there is no change in colour on that fin or any spots of whatever colour.

There are 8 Platys (2,6) and all of them don't show any signs of anything.

I'm mainly asking because it seems to me that it is uncommon that Platys rip each other their fins off.

And I forgot, ammonia/nitrite/nitrates are almost always 0 due to the plants in the tank. I monitor ph with a little ph meter with the probe constantly in the tank and I keep it between ph 7.5 and 7.8. So the water shouldn't be too bad.

An update.

Looking closer to that guy it seems that what we always regarded as a female has turned out now to be a male.

Looks like he has developed his gonopodium late and maybe this explains why he is getting chased now.

So, 2,6 changed to 3,5.
