Got a quick question. This past week has been a roller coaster with my tank/fish. I changed the filter about 2 or 3 weeks ago and my tank started to cycle all over again, my fault on that one, I wasn't thinking and didn't "prep" the new filter with the old one.So about 2 weeks or so in, my swordtail died unexpectedly.. he wasn't looking sick or anything, just died. From there it was downhill. I went to the fish shop (Petco,, its all I got)and bought some Melafix because my sunset platy was getting some raised scales, they didn't have any antibiotics there, so I got what they had. So I started treating my 10gal tank, each time I put the melafix in he seemed to perk up. So I have been doing about 10% water changes and treating w/ Melafix for about a week now. He seems to be feeling better as for the dropsy, he isn't bloated, just a little bit of raised scales along his spine(?) now it seems there are two white fuzzy spots on his head. I was reading about Ich treatment and websites say to raise your temp in the tank to like 85 slowly over the course of a day. Will this really help him out? if so how long will it take? Should I still be putting in the Melafix? Will that help at all?
My water conditions seem fine, PH was a little low (around 6, Ive got it raised to about a 7.2 and slowly getting that back to around 7.6)I have been adding aquarium salt to help ease the symptoms. Anything special I should or shouldn't be doing? Thanks for the help :)

well, we need your tank stats, ammonia nitrite and nitrates :good:
You are in a 'fish-in' cycle now, so suggest you read the appropriate part in the beginners section and understand all it entails, and what you need to do to keep your fish healthy while the tank is cycling :good:

I just did a 10% water change, I will take a new reading in about an hour so it will be more accurate. I haven't had that big of an issue except for the Ph, and I had a bit of a nitrIte spike *which I believe was the cycling* But I will edit this post in about an hour with my readings.
I have been keeping fish for several years now, this tank is about a year old now, I just made a silly mistake and didn't prep the new filter before I put it in :( This is my first tank with Platy's Im used to doing fancy goldfish. Because Im doing a different kind of fish, its been kinda new to me. I already read the guide.

OK... Ph=7.4 Am=0 NA=0-5 *in between* NI=o 10gallon tank

The tank seems fine, except for a little bit of cloudiness. My Platy seems to be swimming more instead of resting.

Ok, I read through some of the treads, how long to I keep the tank at 30C? and will this wipe the tank of the ich? thanks for the help :)
