I have a female platy who has dropsy. I have never had dropsy before and I am not shure what to do. Most places I look say that you can't help them one they get to the pinecone stage which she is at. Any advice would be great.

Dropsy is usually caused by bad water quality, so improve that by doing water changes and cleaning the substrate. If the other tank occupants allow for it (some fish can't stand any at all), a little aquarium salt can help. A half dose of something anti-bacterial like eSHa 2000 will also reduce the risk of secondary infection.

Should I isolate the fish or allow it to stay in the tank w/ the other fish?

i would isolate, if she dies then your other fish may try to eat here and get infected as well.
what are your water stats?
hope this helps and shes ok

All you can do is isolate and use epson salts, bacterial med.

Once scales stick out last stage of dropsy, organ failure. Fish rarely make it once scales stick out.

Dropsy is a symtom of a desease rather than a desease in it's own right.
Many causes, bad water quality, internal parasites, bacterial, etc.

I'm not too sure if I'm correct but isn't there a bacterial form of dropsy and a non-bacterial form?

The non-bacterial form can be caused by dramatic environmental changes (i.e. change in temperature or PH). Look into if any dramatic changes have occurred within your aquarium and if this is the case try to avoid such changes recurring.

aww sorry your platy has final stage dropsy. it may be better to cull the fish rather than letting it suffer. is it showing any symptoms which are abnormal for it?
