I bought 2 Sunset Platies at the weekend and put them in my tank as company for another platy I had.

I have noticed on the male that he has a white spot about 4mm i diameter. I have not had experience of white spot before so does anyone think this is what it is or could it just be part of his colouring as he has the same colour on other parts of his body. No other symptoms other than he is still a little bit shy.

An eager to diagnose early as I have marbled hatchets in the tank who are very suseptible to white spot

Also the sunsets seem to pair together and the existing tuxedo I have does not mix with them as much as I thought (seems like she prefers hanging out with the hatchets)

It definately does not sound like white spot, aka ich. As asked before is this spot fuzzy? Does it seemed to be raised up, does it have a red spot in the center? Does there seem to be an excess of slime on it?

If at all possible, I would isolate the fish. It would also be useful to know the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH readings in your tank.

There is no red spot in the spot however whilst I wouldn't describe it as furry, the surface is clearly not smooth. The bottom 1mm of his tail fin looks slightly white.

BAD NEWS :( - The other Sunset Platy developed a tiny cotton wool affect on her nose and died very quickly afterwards (I had to fish her out quickly as the shrimps were trying to drag her away)

Is this mouth and fin rot/bacterial?

NB Other fish in tank - 1 tuxedo platy: looking quite skinny and surface is a bit lumpy but acting fine and no other symptoms. - 4 Marbled Hatchets: no symptoms at all.

Last water test were 2 days ago and all was within acceptable levels. Will te-test tonight.

Don't like the fish being skinny with lumps as it pointing to fish tb, also being skiiny can be internal parasites, is the fish eating.
