Hi, I bought 2 platies today. I'm not sure what type they are but they're blue'ish with a red'ish bit towards their tail fins. They have black fins.

Can anyone tell me what type of Platy they are first?

Anyway.... One of the fish is a lot less colourful than the other, I'm assuming this to be a female?

When I got them home from the LFS today, and placed the bag into my tank to acclimatize; I noticed the less colourful fish was appearing to lay eggs?! There were many loose in the bag too. After half an hour-ish, I let the fish swim out of the bag and into the water.

I kept my eye on the fish, and for the next half hour it continued to appear to be laying eggs?!

Both fish appear to be fine, and have settled in quite nicely.
They're having a right good nosey around infact!

It's really puzzled me though this as I know that the Platy is a Livebearer.
Could it have been that it had been stressed in the journey home from the LFS and had an abortion?

Help?

Sounds like she did abort due to the stress of the move. It happens. Color is not a good determination of a platy's sex. Look at the pins in the Livebearer's forum for pics on how to tell the difference; it's very easy!

Just out of interest what did the eggs look like?

Cheers pnyklr3,

Yeah, thought it must've been the stress.

Hi Lynz781, they looked like tiny transparant balls. There were loads of them.
It definitely wasn't crap if thats what you were thinkin' lol. ;)

Nah i didn't think they were poop. I was just interested. Incase my fish (danios) produce eggs. I don't know what to look for. Goodluck if you have any babies!!
