hey all is a five gallon to small for two platies and is it suited for a fry tank thanks russell

It'd be a little cramped for two adults. What sexes were you thinking though? As a fry tank it'd be fine. You couldn't grow all that many fry up in it, but it'd be great size for some. :)

i was thinking for a male and a female is there any small fish that i could keep in there that would be ok with platy fry just dont want it to loook empty and i want to keep the filter running i could always move any small fish into my main community tank when my female is pregnant any suggestions maybe a small shoal of danios :/

The best situations for 5 gallons, at least I think, are Bettas. A 5 gallon gives a male betta a lot of space and freedom, while still giving you a decent sized tank to try and have some decorative arrangement (Much more than a bowl would anyway).

Danios require even more space than platys, so I doubt anyone would suggest you do that.

I definitely wouldn't put a male and a female, as the female can get very stressed out by the male trying to mate with her, and she won't have much room to get away in that size tank. A Betta, as mentioned, is a possibility. Your best bet, in my opinion, is just keeping it for the fry, even if it does look empty, because that's what's going to be healthiest. If you add another fish in with fry, you have more waste and ammonia, which means more water changes to keep the water parameters good for fry.

It would be great for a fry tank for a while untill they get too big. for a adult tank i would have 2 females as they are a bit more docile than males. I have noticed that males go about the tank more and females tend to just slowly cruise and stay in the same area. but thats what happened in my tank so dont take this as a fact.

Thanks for the help everyone think ill stick to a fry tank try and post some pics when i get my new camera
