platy sex

does anyone know when a platy develops into the sex they are going to be?
i have 6 platy that are 6 weeks old today and they all still look like females. i was wondering if anyone knows when the male develops in a platy.

platies will start to sex out around 2-3 months depending on growth/feeding etc. HTH

thanks for the reply. so i should start seeing the difference in about 2 weeks to a month. i did notice that some seem to have a bigger anal fin than others. 2 of them are smaller then the other 4. could that be the beginning of the change? or am i imagining things

I'm glad you brought this up. I've got over a dozen platy fry as well, and they all look like females at the moment! I want to move some into my 30 gallon, but I want to segregate the males and females, as I'm not ready for hundreds more babies!

Every day, I look, and the cute little things move so fast, it's hard to get a look at their fins. Hopefully, in another couple of weeks, we'll both know who's who!
