Tank size: 10 gallon
pH: 7.6 ppm
ammonia: .25 ppm (Currently cycling, tap water has .25 ppm in readings)
nitrite: It's been peaking, just ran a test: .25 ppm...brb water change lol
nitrate: Was 10 a few days ago, now 5 ppm
kH: Not sure
gH: Not sure
tank temp: 78 F
Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
My female platy used to be the most active and playful fish in the tank. However, I went away for the weekend - leaving my dad with careful instructions on how to test/change the tank. When I came back I noticed the NitrIte spiking...and now she is acting very odd. She almost always has clamped fins. I notice her swimming around sometimes, but she mostly just hangs out at the bottom in the one corner. She still eats, but she looks a little bloated. Her breathing has become very rapid...and today I noticed she is rubbing herself alot on the one plant (fake). I checked for parasites, I couldn't see any external ones. Below is a recent picture of her. Is this just the NitrIte burning her? Before I had my API master liquid test kit the ammonia was at 1.0 ppm and she did not even seem bothered by it. I posted another topic, but for more information on the situation - my black sailfin molly has what looks to be an internal bacterial infection. He also had somewhat rapid breathing. Im going to buy aquarium salt tomorrow, and I am stil awaiting suggestions for the meds I need for my molly.
I also noticed a strong smell coming from the tank.
Volume and Frequency of water changes:
I try to test 2 times daily, which means 2 tank changes a day with this NitrIte situation. Lately it's been 50% changes. Depending on the NitrIte reading...sometimes il do 20 %.
Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
I use Nutrafin Aqua Safe conditioner with the stress coat.
Tank inhabitants:
1 assorted female platy
1 female dalmation molly, she recently dropped fry
1 black sailfin male molly
a few young molly fry
Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
The last time I added something was about...a month ago? A big fake plant.
Exposure to chemicals:
None
