I am fairly new to keeping tropical fish. I have had 2 platy in my tank for about a month now. The female is quite a big fish (jokingly called our fat fish). She has been getting bigger and bigger and we all assumed she might be pregnant but we have not had any fry yet.

I am now starting to doubt if she is pregnant at all especially as she seems a lot bigger at night than in the morning and during the day. She has white stringy poo but has not lost her appetite at all. She is swimming around as normal and seems pretty happy. She is being bothered by the male guppies and one of the keyhole cichlids.

The male platy has the same stringy poo as her which they have both had right from the start when I got them from the shop. All the other fish are fine.

Any ideas?

what type of food are you feeding them? If you think she is a bit bloated try cooking some peas then shell them by sqeezing them between your finger and thumb all my fish love pea's.
A good mixture of food will keep them happy.

I feed them mainly flake food and mini pellets, rarely bloodworm as a treat. She is a very greedy fish, whenever I feed them she rushes, seemingly to get as much as she can before the others get it.

I will try the peas.

platy's are greedy ,good luck with the pea's. She could have already had fry even though you haven't seen any and the other fish including the platy's could have eaten them, try some really dense plant's the fake fern type i find are quite good the fry will hide in them until they are big enough to not get eaten.
