One of my Platys is pregant I believe. The belly is huge, like its ready to burst and has turned white. I went and bought a floating screened fry tank and put her into it. Its been a couple of days and nothing yet.

How long does it take for them to give birth?

If I should happen to miss it and she eats them before I can get her out, will her belly return to normal?

Thanks everyone

To get a correct idea about what this is, I would have to see a picture, but I think it could be two things that are related to over feeding.
The first is just that the fish is over fed and could possibly burst its stomach...I've seen it happen.
The second is that, from overfeeding, the fish could be constipated. I know that the stomach turns white when this happens. The fish also starts to hover and spit out its food. They can even die from it! I'm not sure how to cure this, but if you Google it, I'm sure you can find a reliable answer.
Sorry about your fish. :(

But I do think you should post a picture...maybe I'm wrong. :)

Its not from constipation, theres poop in the bottom of the screened breeder. The fish is active and its been like this for about a week or longer. So if the stomach has burst, it would have died already?

2nd opinions please.

Pics are hard for me, everytime I take a pic I can never it to be as clear or zoomed in as you guys do it.

I doubt it is pregnant since when a fish is pregnant their belly doesnt turn white.. just gets very large and square before giving birth. Or at least I've never seen a pregnant fish have their belly turn white.
I was thinking the same thing as tropicalfish16 :\

Well I dont know what a pregant platy looks like. Because this morning when I turned the light on, BAM, I had 2 platy fry, on the outside of the screened breeder net, so one of my other playties had babies. Luckily, one of them was close to the top of the net and I just pushed it down and it kinda got sucked into the breeder. The other is hiding down around my Lava rock Anubis plant.

How can I catch him with the big fish net that I have, without hurting him?

I'm not sure what is the safest way since I've only delt with fry once and that was the one I got free from the pet store. (Still living and getting color now too) You can try cating the fry with your net but be extreamly careful when putting the fry in the breeder trap. Or you could wait until it swims to the top since I've read that usually fry will stay at the top.

Before deciding wait for others opinions on that first. But as for the platy, is her belly still huge and white?

The orginal platy in question is still huge and with a white belly. I have since released it back into regular population. The other Fry is hanging out on the bottom around my Anubis plant. It does leave its cover every so often and I havent seen it being threaten by the other fish. Maybe I'll just have to get in there and get it.

Most likly there is something wrong with your platy with the white belly.. When pregnant their belly does not turn different colors rather she gave birth or not. As for the fry, why not leave it in there if its able to protect it's self? I left the fry I had in my tank and she is still alive and growing.

You may want to go back to your lfs that you got the platy from and ask them if they know anything about whats going on. They may say the same thing we have though but its better than doing nothing at all.

as said a picture would be the best bet in identifying her problem (if there is one) it doesnt have to be perfect just to give us an idea
