Has anyone seen this before or know what it is? I thought she was pregnant as she is quite plump, but she has done this for a couple of nights now.

Thanks guys. Why would this be happening? Stress?

There are a hell of a lot of eggs, can i expect any fry this time round?

i would say stress leading to early labour, is she a new fish? any others bothereing her? water stats?

The tank has been running for about 5 months now. The 4 platys were my cycle fish (1 male, 3 females).

It is a 120L tank - 4 platys, 4 guppy, 6 tetra, 2 angels, catfish.

The guppies annoy the platy a lot. Maybe this is a contributor.

The water levels/conditions are fine, I checked them all last night.

It would still be useful to know the exact numbers.

What about decor? Is it planted? Lots of hiding places?

And maintenance? How often do you do water changes? Move stuff around?

I don't know the exact numbers off the top of my head sorry - I can post these this evening.

It is planted yes - not heavily, but there are a fair few hiding places.

I clean and do a 20-30% water change every 2 weeks.

Cool.

That helps reduce stress.

Should also be fine. If it was mine, I would do 15-25% every week instead.. just personal preference from experience.

Oh, are the guppies all male?

There 3 male guppies, and 1 female - I know this should probably be the other way round.

The males do tend to follow the platy around in a 'in your face' sort of way.

Thanks for the advice on water change - maybe I should change to weekly.

It could be the male guppies then, most livebearers don't hold any concept of "different species".

I guess there is not a lot I can really do. I'll just have to let them get on with it and see what happens in the future.
