hi
I recently lost a guppy from what i'm certain was dropsy, his fins were all sticking out (pine cone style) & he had ballooned in shape, i lost him a day or two ago, I had dosed the tank with an Internal anti bacterial med but that wasn't gonna help him.

Anyway, I now have 1 ill looking platy, seems to be looking bloated and not eating. The thing that's confusing me is that these 2 fish I have had in the tank for several months & they've been fine up til this week. I recently bought 4 tetras & 1 other platy, and they are not ill at all, I dosed with WSP treatment when i added the new fish. I know new fish can bring bacteria into the tank but i can't understand why i've lost the guppy & now possibly will lose the platy from Dropsy when they've been fine up til now.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me, I've dosed the tank again today with the Interpet No 9 (bacterial) medication, but i'm certain the platy is not well.

I don't have a hospital tank either so it makes things a bit tricky.
My tank is 70 litres.
I do 25% water change every week & my nitrites etc have always been fine when tested.

I have:
1 plec
4 Rams
2 guppies
5 corys
3 platies
4 black tetra
1 cardinal

any advice would be gratefully received before i lose the platy.

thanks

Viv

Dropsy is when the scales stick out not fins, can the fish maintain there balance in the water.
Need to look at water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
How many gallons is the tank, plus full stock list of fish.
What do you feed the fish.
They need veg and frozen foods in there diet as to many dried foods can lead to swim bladder problems,
Try some shelled peas, cook frozen peas in boiling water for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers and add to the tank.
