Hello and thanks for any help. I have an established tank now for the past 4 months. Everything seems to look ok. The water quality is good. Tank is crystal clear.I have 2 Platies along with some other community fish. I have not been able to determine the sex of the two. One is significantly larger than the other and chases the small one around constantly. There is definitely at least on female as I had babies already. Two babies survived and are very healthy looking..about 2 months old.All the fish are eating including the distressed one. The problem is, she doesn't look good at all. I found her lying on the bottom of the tank. Then, she was swimming around darting back and forth. Then, back on the bottom. I put her in the net breeder tonight thinking this may be stress induced. Could the supposed male be exhausting her? She seems to have decent energy as I had a hard time catching her. Probably caused more stress..I hope she is ok..any suggestions? I have grown very fond of her..it would be sad to lose her. I don't see any visible signs of disease and the other fish all look fine. Thanks Again, Elaine :/

She/he definatly sounds under the weather. Id be pooped out to if women chased me all the time ( Id be happy but tired  ) Keep her in the net for awhile and feed high quality food until she gains her strength back. Keep an eye open for stress related diseases. You may want to consider get a few more to help offset the stress caused by the constant chasing.

Could be exhaustion or could be an internal disease which you cannot see.

I also agree with keeping her/him in the breeder net to give her some rest and also if your tank will allow it buy a few more females.

By the way look uder the belly near the anal fin if it looks like a spike sticking out then its a male if not its female.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, she is still acting sick. It's the strangest thing..she will be flat out on her side, then get up and swim and eat. Then. back lying down. I still see no visible signs of any problem. The other fish all seem fine. I only hope she doesn't pass anything on to them.I appreciate all the help.. :D

My platy males are acting the same.Ive seperated my males from my female because she is pregnant and they attacked her.Now 1 male is attacking anotha and it is always laid on the bottom gasping for air.If you have a small place for it to hide away from the other fish that helps. My platy seems to hide away behind a rock. :D
