OK My oldest platty has not been eating for the last two days. He has been chilling by the bottom of the tank and today i noticed he is a lot puffier and also he has lossed a few scales. All of his scales are also coming up it is really weird. The ones that fell off are right in the main part of the body...

40 gallon tank
5 Angles
6 Platties
1 Pleco

Ph 7
Amonia zero
nitrate 20
nitrite zero
hardness was also fine

I do once a week water changes.

When you say the scales are coming up, do you mean that the scales are sticking out, like a pine cone? If so, then the fish has dropsy, a bacterial infection. You can try treating with antibiotics, however, it is notoriously hard to cure.

Dropsy is a symptom of a disease not a disease itself. I's the accumilation of fluid in the fish, usually due to bacterial infection. The fluid retention signals organ failure, which is difficult to reverse.

Kanamycin, along with epsom salt in the water may work, but it's 50/50 at best.

Keep up on water changes to prevent the other fish from being affected, clean water helps combat bad bacteria, which are usually water borne.
