Platy Laying On His Side

I have 3 male platies. One male is not lying on his side. his very skinny.

Any advice? I have put him in a net box, as the other just climb over him as if his not there.

Water is fine - see post above.

water readings:

ammonia:0ppm
nitrate:40ppm
nitrite:0ppm
 
are you sure nitrates are 40 ppm as this seems quite high. are you sure it isn't 4.0?

If it is then you may be experiencing a mini- cycle and will need to doo a few 50% water changes.

Once you have done these, if the fish look better then that was probably it, either that or the fish have got a swimbladder disfunction which would explain why they cant stay upright so well anymore.

check your ammonia again also as these are some of the symptoms of ammonia poisioning i think.

k, just looked a tad high though. will bear in mind foe future!

I think you were thinkig of nitrItes, if there are any then theres a problem :good:
 
update - he is still laying on his side. breathing a bit heavy.
