Platy Is Sick =(

Change some of her water, if she sitting on the bottom not good, sorry.

I'll change half of it out.... I took a picture of her earlier today.... you can see the streaking on her fin, and the lack of blue on her side. She really didn't want her picture taken - this is where she hangs out a lot of the time.

Have you got a bacterial med yet, as she is fading fast, it could already be to late, red streaking can be poor water quality, or septicemia.
Taken from the board.
YOu forgot one that I have encountered numerous times, correct me if my information is off:

Septicemia: A fairly rare to common in all tropical and coldwater fish. It is caused by bad tank conditons and is very hard to cure if not impossible. Bacterial Hemorrhagic Septicemia can be diagnosed by red streaking of the fins and body and once this disease progresses, ulcerations and body sores start to appear. There is significant loss of appetite, lethargy, loss of motor functions in the later stages of the disease.

Treatment: I recomend using Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride Powder obtained from a vet to cure this disease.

Whats your location, thats a crappy store if you can only get melafix.
Is there anywhere else you can try.

Ok, how is she.

no better, no worse. my hubby reminded me that we have some fish amoxicillan at the house... would that work? i have no clue even how much to give her... but it's more "antibiotic" than melafix.

To be honest never heard of it, plus it's not on the fish meds list, what does it treat.

Found it.
Description
Amoxicillin is a penicillin-like antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia; bronchitis; venereal disease (VD); and ear, lung, nose, urinary tract, and skin infections.

Amoxicillin also is used before some surgery or dental work to prevent infection.

Is it tablet form, or in a liquid, and what's the strength in mg.

it's a capsule- and (let me go get it) it's 250mgs per capsule. it says it's a broad spectrum bactericidal (? it says that word) antibiotic. use for infected eyes, fin or tail rot, skin ulcerations, pop-eye, columnaris disease and gill disease.

If you add the med to the tank it will wipe most of the benefical bacteria in the filter, open the capsule and sprinkle the power or granules in a jug of tank water, then stir till it disolves, then run through a net into another jug a couple of times, then add to the tank.
Increase aeration in the tank, and keep a close eye on the fish to see there are ok.

her tank isn't cycled. it's too small to cycle.

this morning the white areas look worse. the flaky part looks like it's sticking out a little bit, and there seems to be a tinge of pink inside it. the top fin isn't streaked anymore though.

Right so you are going to treat in her bowl, right don't use the whole tablet them, just sprinke abit into a jug not much.

Yes, can you increase aeration as meds take 02 out of the water.
Just a word of caution if the fish is weak and going down hill fast, the antibiotic could finish her off.
