Hello everyone
I've just recently got in to keeping a few fish. I bought my first platys from Pets at home super store from the coldwater section. Having never kept fish before or read anything about them I thought being a superstore they would know what they were talking about and consequently selling to people.
I subsequently went to a fish specialist retailer to buy some more coldwater fish to go with my platys to be told that platys are not coldwater fish. I told the dude in the shop that the guy at the superstore had told me that these platys had been acclimatised to cold water, to which he said in no uncertain terms, that is utter rubbish and can not be done.
He said they are tropical fish and need to be kept in a temperature controlled tank. A few days later and fair bit of cash lighter my platys were in their lovely new big tank with a heater. They seem to be doing fine.
I of course complained to the superstore from where i bought my original platys to be told again that they can be acclimatied to cold water, they do it all the time and have no issues with the fish and they thrive in it.
Can someone PLEASE tell me who is the truth teller and who is fibbing to me.
thank you kindly for reading my long and boring words xxx
