I have read on here and another site that the two dont mix but i'm not sure. All the platys i had were basically just the orange with black. I have a lot of young guppy and platys female and males together in my tank so they have babies pretty often. I noticed that some of my platys are now coming out orange and black but also if any of you know what a feeder guppy looks like or some other guppies, they have a bluish purple shiny color to them. Well my young platys have that. So was wondering is it possible or is it not possible at all for them to breed?

Platies and Guppies get along fine.
Feeder guppies are just cheap local guppies sold as fish food.
Guppies and platies will produce youong in a wide range of colours. If you have pure strains of a particular colour then you should get young the same. But it only takes a different coloured male to get in and knock up the females, and you have licorice allsorts.

thats the odd the thing. All of my platys are the same color which is orange and black. They dont have any other type of color. The fish coming out a little different are like 3rd generation. And some of these are the ones that have some glossy bluish/purple colors on them. So thought it was different.

Guppys and platys do OK together, but they do not breed together (a platy will not breed with a guppy).

Nothing to add rearly but just backing up Dunchp.

Platies and guppies cant cross so your not get any cross breeding.

Nothing to add either, just backing up dunchp and heleterskelter lol

Yea i know they get along fine well at least mine get along well. My mollie gets along well with all 3 as well. I just thought it was really odd how some of my young platys are born now with similar shininess to them as my guppies. Someone mentioned the male possibly but my male is just orange.. Maybe the few fish got it somewhere down the line? Thanx for the replies.

It is possible for the two to breed, but the fry will be still born if born at all. That is why you will never see that type of fry. Guppies will try to breed with anything, but the fry won't make it, ever. the genetics are too far in range.

I am assuming that BlackSword is talking about the mechanics of breeding here. He is right, male guppies will attempt to breed with most things, but it is impossible for them to produce fry. They will not produce fry, stillborn or otherwise.
